Get started
3 known ways to put open firmware or software on this device, easiest first. Each one links to the project's own instructions.
Before you start- Back up your data and settings (and the stock firmware, when the guide says how).
- Check the exact model, hardware revision and firmware version against the guide: a close model may not work.
- Charge the battery or use a stable power supply; do not unplug during the install.
Use tuya-local (nothing is flashed)
MediumNeeds a cable or the command line · tuya-local
- You need
- Home Assistant (tuya-local is installed through HACS), Tuya / Smart Life app account (to get the device's local key)
- Device opened
- No
- Brick risk
- None
- Reversible
- Yes
No flashing: set the device up in the Tuya or Smart Life app first; tuya-local then controls it on your network with its device id and local key. Re-pairing in the app changes the local key.

Check the "Main Module" version in the Tuya or Smart Life app and do not update the device first. Firmware built on Tuya's patched SDK (from February 2022) cannot be flashed over the air: serial flashing is the alternative.
